About Nadine

Look at the Woman Behind the Lens

“Photography captures a time and place in history that will never again occur. Through my lens, I capture those moments for all time.” For over 25 years, Nadine Levin has been capturing the beauty of the world that surrounds us through her innovative and elegant photography. Her images are a reflection of the woman behind the lens. Often riding horseback to capture her Western images, she creates a uniquely feminine portrayal of this predominately masculine and conventional world. Conversely, her infrared images reveal her contemporary vision and desire to expand her art beyond the traditional. Nadine has loved photography since she was a child, and has honed her craft throughout her life. Her images are vital and alive. Her subjects reflect the many genres of life, and the images you see are neither distorted nor manipulated. What she sees through her lens is what she presents to her audience. And, while her infrared photography, by its very nature, changes the colors of our world, the essence of her subjects remain honest and true. Nadine believes that work that evokes emotion is the mark of true art, and this is what she strives to accomplish. Whether peace, awe, bewilderment, anger or a longing to be in the scene, Nadine wants her viewers to feel something when they look at her work. She has traveled extensively to capture the images that you see in these galleries, but her true love still lies with the American West.

The Photographic Technique of Nadine Levin

“All of my photographs are real – no digital tricks. Whether I’m riding the range photographing working cowboys, or in the rainforest capturing wildlife or flora in its natural habitat, my work depicts life in the world around us that we so often fail to notice. Even in my infrared images, what you are seeing is merely nature through filtered light. “My work is based on traditional photography, but is captured with digital cameras. My training was with film cameras and hours spent in a darkroom. For me, digital provides a more precise means of developing, and the ability to correct the exposures in my images before having shot an entire roll of 24 pictures with bad lighting.”

Bringing to life the world of Unseen

“My infrared images are shot with 2 different Canon cameras that have been converted solely for infrared photography. The one that I use for my color infrared images allows a broader spectrum of light than the camera that produces the high contrast black and white images that seem to display the world in reverse.” Nadine’s techniques create stunning visual journeys that capture your imagination taking you to a place in another time or another world. Nadine uses only Canon cameras and lenses.
